Dr. Samson Wassara, Ph.D.

Samson Samuel Wassara is Professor of Politics in the University of Juba. He obtained PhD from the University of Paris XI in 1994. He is currently the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bahr el Ghazal. While at the University of Juba, Prof.

Wassara held various academic positions in the University of Juba and was twice Dean, College of Social and Economic Studies. He teaches political science and international relations subjects, as well as peace studies. His research interests include conflict societies, security sector, hydro-politics, state building and governance.

Prof. Wassara has widely published on Africa, Sudan and South Sudan. Among his publications are: “Interests of Border Communities in Water and Pastures: Will They Influence Nile Water Policies of the Two Sudans?” InUNISCI Journal/Discussion Papers No. 33, October 2013. Complutense University of Madrid; “South Sudan in Volatilities of Sharing the Nile Basin Resources,” in Elke Grawert, (editor). Forging Two Nations: Insights on Sudan and South Sudan, Addis Ababa: OSSREA, 2013; Post- Referendum Sudan: National and Regional Questions. Dakar: CODESRIA, edited with Zain Al-Abdin Muhamed, 2014; and “Political History of Southern Sudan before Independence of the Sudan,” in Redie Bereketeab,Self-Determination and Secession in Africa: The Post-Colonial State, London: Routledge, 2015.
