The Internship Program:
The Zambakari Advisory internship program gives individuals an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the fields of international affairs, security, and development with a focus on Africa and the Middle East. This is a unique opportunity to get practical experience working with a young and dynamic consulting firm. Course credit can be arranged if acceptable to your academic institution. One Summer 2017 internship is available for a qualified candidate.
Intern Responsibilities: 
We are looking for candidates that can assist with graphic design, web development, blog, images for print and digital mediums including: web, social media, email, brochures. The intern will work with the CEO to support marketing campaigns with design solutions and creative products.  In addition to assisting with various design projects, the intern will work on web design and layouts. Candidate must be highly motivated and work independently, possess excellent communication and copy-editing skills, and excellent knowledge of graphic design. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite including: Photoshop, web design, desktop publishing, photo editing, InDesign, and Illustrator, and Weebly and Mailchimp preferred. Duties for the Graphic Design Intern include (but are not limited to):
  • Maintain and update website and social media outlets as requested
  • Produce mockups and comps to bring communications and designs to life with HTML and CSS across a spectrum of platforms
  • Prepare digital resources for marketing campaigns, such as (but not limited to): email, content launches, product launches, electronic newsletters, and social media platforms
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and business team to support all other general marketing projects

​Research Fellowship Program:
The Zambakari Advisory Fellowship Program gives individuals an opportunity to develop firsthand experience in the fields of international affairs, security, and development with a focus on Africa and the Middle East. This is a unique opportunity to strengthen research skills and practical experience working with a young and dynamic consulting firm.

Description:
The Fellowship Program offers pre-and doctoral students and young professionals in the social sciences an opportunity to contribute to the Advisory’s body of research under the supervision of senior experts and consultants. Fellows will become a part of a diverse and highly experienced team, and work under the close supervision of the Advisory’s CEO and consultants. Publications that are completed as a part of the fellowship will become available to the Advisory’s extensive audience, and shared at relevant conferences when applicable.

​Responsibilities:  
The candidate must hold a master degree to be considered for the program and possess excellent knowledge and research skills to help contribute to our research and advisory work. Fellows are expected to produce a research product (e.g., research reports, peer reviewed articles, book manuscript) during their tenure (at least one report per semester and one peer reviewed manuscript every six months). We welcome applicants working within a broad range of topics related to peace, human rights, transitional processes, international security, development, and trade.

  • Develop social media strategy, monitoring key social media channels, engage with prospective clients

Intern Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate who can assist with data analysis and research on a longitudinal study of violent incidences in South Sudan. The Data Analyst Research Aide will work directly with the Advisory’s Statistician.
  • The primary responsibility will be fivefold (a) prepare (clean, validate, and restructure) quantitative data into a reliable and usable format, (b) recode data and create new variables as directed, (c) summarize data with charts, tables and descriptive statistics, (d) document data processing steps, (e) develop skills in a range of data processing software including Excel, MS Access, SPSS, and perhaps infographic applications.
  • Training on basic quantitative research methods, data entry, data management, analysis will be provided. Working under supervision, the intern will work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with statistician and investigators.

Desired Qualifications:
Candidate must be detailed oriented and capable of handling confidential information; possess the ability to follow directions; excellent organizational and time management skills; effective verbal and written communication skills. Previous enrollment in a database management, statistic, or technical/computer is preferred. Experience, skills or propensity in using relational database or statistical software is preferred.

We are looking for candidates that can assist with database management, mapping and data visualization for research undertaken by the firm such as the longitudinal study of violent incidences in South Sudan, internal displacement, and violent incidents in Africa and the Middle East. The Intern will work directly with the research team under the supervision of The Advisory’s Statistician to.
  • Create maps, graphics and other visualization using the company’s spatial data sources, edit and re-project spatial data for usage in the organization’s projects
  • Assist the research team to meet data needs such as integrating existing database with geospatial data
  • Analyze and correlate data from a variety of sources, generate GIS digital data, thematic maps, map layouts and other visuals/graphics
  • Develop and maintain databases for a variety of projects and produce maps and related data for inclusion in publications
Training on basic quantitative research methods, data entry, data management, and analysis will be provided. Working under supervision, the intern will work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with consultants and investigators.

Desired Qualifications:

Candidate must be detail oriented and capable of handling confidential information; possess the ability to follow directions; excellent organizational and time management skills; and work collaboratively and independently in a team environment. Previous enrollment in a database management, GIS, Macro / C / C++ / Visual Basic programming skills and statistic is preferred. Experience with a data visualization software, relational database (e.g., MS ACCESS), or SQL is preferred.
