The Zambakari Advisory, L.L.C. is a newly incorporated firm which leverages experts worldwide to provide consulting and advisory services to individuals, businesses, and organizations in Africa and in the Middle East. The Internship Program:

The Zambakari Advisory internship program is designed to give individuals an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the fields of international affairs, security, and development with a focus on Africa and the Middle East. This is a unique opportunity to get practical experience working with a young and dynamic consulting firm. Internships are online based and course credit can be arranged if acceptable to your academic institution. One summer 2016 internship is available for a qualified candidate.

Intern Responsibilities:

We are looking for candidates that can assist with database management, mapping and data visualization for research undertaken by the firm such as the longitudinal study of violent incidences in South Sudan, internal displacement, and violent incidents in Africa and the Middle East. The Intern will work directly with the research team under the supervision of The Advisory’s Statistician to.
  • Create maps, graphics and other visualization using the company’s spatial data sources, edit and re-project spatial data for usage in the organization’s projects
  • Assist the research team to meet data needs such as integrating existing database with geospatial data
  • Analyze and correlate data from a variety of sources, generate GIS digital data, thematic maps, map layouts and other visuals/graphics
  • Develop and maintain databases for a variety of projects and produce maps and related data for inclusion in publications
Training on basic quantitative research methods, data entry, data management, and analysis will be provided. Working under supervision, the intern will work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with consultants and investigators.

Desired Qualifications:

Candidate must be detail oriented and capable of handling confidential information; possess the ability to follow directions; excellent organizational and time management skills; and work collaboratively and independently in a team environment. Previous enrollment in a database management, GIS, Macro / C / C++ / Visual Basic programming skills and statistic is preferred. Experience with a data visualization software, relational database (e.g., MS ACCESS), or SQL is preferred.
